Position Title: Chief Executive Officer – 5 year Contract

Position Description: Under the direction of the FWFN Band Council, with direct supervision from the Chief of FWFN, plans, organizes, directs and controls, the development and implementation of all FWFN programs, projects and services to ensure the effective and efficient delivery and operation.

 

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for the overall supervision of all administrative staff and Project Administrators, with direct supervision provided to the Senior Managers.

Directs and advises the Senior Managers delivering services and programs to the Membership, clientele and general public.

Coordinates the evaluations of all Band staff via Senior Managers and performs direct evaluations of those staff under the Band Manager supervision.

Establishes objectives for the departments and formulates policies and programs.

Attends all Council meetings and provides information and resources for Band meetings and Band Council members.

Supervises the preparation of the agendas, minutes and by-laws for Band Council, Committee and Community meetings.

Prepares Band Council resolutions, contribution arrangements and other funding proposals to access funds for priorities as determined by the Band Council.

Implements the decisions of the FWFN Band Council.

Participates in the coordination of the annual audit of the FWFN financial records, reviews audit with Council, follows-up with recommendations and implements financial policies and procedures.

Organizes funds to implement policies and programs; establishes financial and administrative controls and overall personnel planning.

Ensures the security of all FWFN assets.

Ensures that all departments have their annual budgets prepared and submitted prior to the beginning of the fiscal year.

Maintains effective communication and liaisons with all levels of government and various organizations.

Represents FWFN for the purpose of Government liaison and media relations.

Assist FWFN Chief and Council in developing the long-term vision and strategic plan of FWFN and facilitate the implementation of that plan.

Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the FWFN Chief and Council.

 

Reporting Responsibilities:

Submits reports and briefs on all Department activities, financial and administrative matters to the FWFN Council and other agencies.

 

Conditions of Employment:

Valid Ontario Drivers License and use of personal vehicle.

Must be able to travel.

Criminal Reference Check.

Subject to a drug test as a pre-condition of employment.

 

Qualifications:

A university degree or college diploma in Band Management, Business Administration, Finance or other related field and several years of experience as senior manager in a related organization or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Sound analytical and problem solving skills, stress management and time management skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must be computer proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with accounting software programs.

Understanding of the Fort William First Nation traditions/heritage/cultural lifeways are a definite asset.
