Position Title: Adult Education Teacher- One (1) Part-Time Contract
September – June – Potential to renew each year in September

Position Description: The Adult Education Teacher is to prepare and present curriculum in accordance with the Ministry of Education via an adult education center. In carrying out these responsibilities the teacher must, whenever possible, relate the curriculum to Anishinaabe culture and values.

Major Responsibilities:

Instruction and Curriculum

• Carry out the duties of a teacher as outlined in the Ontario Education Act.
• Maintain a daily lesson plan book.
• Participate in the development and review of curriculum to ensure programming remains relevant and effective.
• Provide individual support to students, be sensitive to adult students who are returning after extended absences from school.
• Plan and deliver land-based and cultural experiences that reflect community values and traditions.

Student Assessment

• Submit reporting documentation as required.
• Outline OSSD achievement process, track OSSD individual goals.
• Determine PLAR assessments necessity, administer assessments and mark PLAR assessments.
• Help students complete the Senior Equivalency Assessment (SEA) and align SEA applications with curriculum documents to determine credits to be awarded. Submit results to SGEI.
• Mark all coursework and record results- Complete report cards.
• Co-ordinate Co-op placements.

Administration

• Keep attendance records.
• Inventory and order all program supplies.
• Plan, purchase and arrange student incentives, including classroom snacks.
• Conduct yourself as a role model for students.
• Plan annual celebrations including Christmas and end of year/graduation.
• Become involved in professional development activities in your teaching specialty.

Recruitment and Promotion

• Participate in community activities to develop a better rapport and understanding of the students and deepen understanding of their needs.
• Lead ongoing student recruitment to support program enrollment and growth.
• Maintain a liaison with community leaders and Elders in the Robinson-Superior Treaty Area.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal departments, community partners, and local high schools.
• Develop and implement creative advertisements and promote the Adult Education program via FWFN’s newsletters and social media platforms.
• Share program information with prospective students and community members.
• Identify new opportunities for outreach, partnerships, and program visibility.
• Work independently with a high level of initiative and autonomy in recruitment efforts.
• Monitor and contribute to increased enrollment and active participation in programming.
• Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

• Able to occasionally lift items as heavy as 50 lbs.
• Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
• Overtime as required.
• Work week consists of 4 days. (Monday to Thursday)

Qualifications:

• The position requires an Ontario Teachers Certificate with membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers.
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience with qualifications in required subject areas and grade level.
• Subject to a Vulnerable Sectors Check.

Wage: $43.65/hr.
