Cultural Worker (6-Month, Full-Time Contract)

Position Description: The Cultural Worker will assist in developing, coordinating and facilitating Indigenous programs and services in a manner that promotes awareness, understanding and acceptance of Indigenous cultures and teachings.

JOB DUTIES

  • Works with the Cultural Coordinator to develop and plan programs and services
  • Supports the Cultural Coordinator with facility scheduling, program confirmation, facility set-up plans, off site admission trips, and busing
  • Assists in overseeing day-to-day operations of programs
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of program equipment and supplies and sources and
    purchases when required
  • Assists with coordination of staff placements, substitutions and last-minute arrangement for program coverage
  • Provides supervision to participants, part time staff and volunteers.
  • Responds to telephone enquires/e-mails, troubleshoot and problem-solve issues
  • Knowledge of word, excel and graphic design programs
  • Assists with registration enquires, customer service, waitlist management
  • Provides program content and information to aid in the promotion of programs through marketing and web site content
  • Supports data monitoring of programming numbers for registered and drop in programs, cancel/combine/add if required
  • Ensures Health & Safety protocols are met for all participants, staff and volunteers
  • Ensures compliance with all legislation related to health, safety
  • Participates in community events and acts as a liaison to promote programs and services
  • Actively develops and maintain relationships with local schools, agencies, minor sport/cultural groups, partners and community members
  • Assist Cultural Coordinator in ensuring programs are properly equipped for specialized programs including monitoring required repairs to tools and equipment

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to work independently from time to time
  • Able to create alternative solutions to problem/s
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Flexibility in working programs hours, including evenings and weekend
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Police Records Check.
