POSITION TITLE: Housing Maintenance Supervisor – One-Year Contract with Possibility of Extension (Reposted)

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION: The Housing Maintenance Supervisor under the direction of the Housing Manager will aid in various areas of the Fort William First Nation’s Housing Program. This position will manage daily customer relationships with different tenants and patrons through the coordination and supervision of the Housing Department’s Maintenance Program and by representing Fort William First Nation in its best interest.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Aid in the development of the annual housing budgets for Fort William First Nation.
  • Conduct analyses of maintenance and repair costs.
  • Plan a long-range schedule of major repairs on units, such as reroofing or painting the exterior of dwellings.
  • Coordinate schedule for the maintenance and repairs of houses throughout the community.
  • Organize, maintain, and participate in the staff On-Call rotation schedule.
  • Study housing demands, occupancy and turnover rates, and accommodation requirements of applicants to recommend policy and physical requirement changes.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment in Fort William First Nation-owned units.
  • Promote harmonious relations among tenants, housing project personnel, and persons of the community.
  • Maintain a database of all community members accessing the department’s services.
  • Maintain reporting staff schedules.
  • Plan home assessments for community members.
  • Aid in the creation and administration of programs that will increase tenant involvement in various decisions concerning the housing authority.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless services.
  • Other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Some travel may be required.
  • Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
  • Ability to physically inspect housing, materials, and equipment.
  • Overtime as required; On-Call/After Hours required.
  • Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs may be required.
  • Ability to make emergency decisions and aid authorities in the event of emergency or disaster.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent is required. 
  • Post-secondary diploma in a related field would be considered an asset. 
  • 3-5 years’ experience working with a housing authority.
  • Knowledgeable of housing programs and associated funding sources and current real estate law and practices. 
  • Knowledge of financing techniques and feasibility analysis procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of Band practices and a dedication to the community. 
  • Exceptional multi-tasking abilities and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to develop working procedures and programs. 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others. 
  • Exceptional computer skills.
