Position Title:
Human Resource Manager- Full-time Permanent

Position Description:
Under the general direction of the CEO, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling and analyzing the operations of the Human Resources Department. This role requires the individual to adhere to and enforce all established Fort William First Nation policies and procedures. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all of the Human Resources department operations and processes.
  • Strategically plan for the organization’s human capital needs, in concert with other managers.
  • Develop and facilitate training and development programs for employees and managers.
  • Adhere to applicable legislation such as the Human Rights Act, Canada Labour Code and Labor Standards Act.
  • Identify job vacancies and plan for filling them.
  • Recruit and select new hires based on their knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Inform employees about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages and opportunities for promotion.
  • Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering contracts and policies striving to resolve work-related issues.
  • Assist in the investigations and reporting of accidents/incidents/complaints and conflict resolution.
  • Negotiate and help interpret employment contracts.
  • Act as the Co-Chair of the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Remain current with best practices, legislative changes and industry standards.
  • Administer the Casino Rama Grant program.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) is preferred not required.
  • Post-Secondary diploma in Human Resources Management or; University degree in Business Management or Labor Relations preferred.
  • 5-7 years Human Resources experience.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, individually and as part of a team.
  • Proven conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • This position will be subject to a criminal records check.

Working Conditions:

  • Manual dexterity required to operate computer and peripherals.
  • Interacts with employees and management.
  • Ability to work well in high stress situations and work well under pressure
  • Overtime may be required.
