September 4, 2025
After a summer break of over two months, school buses are once again picking up and dropping off children starting Wednesday, September 3, 2025. That means it’s time for a critical reminder to all motorists: Stay alert and follow school bus safety laws.
Here’s what you need to know:
YELLOW Flashing Lights
These lights mean the bus is about to stop to pick up or drop off children.
- If you’re approaching from either direction, slow down and prepare to stop.
- You may pass the bus only if it’s still moving and safe to do so before it comes to a complete stop.
RED Flashing Lights + STOP Arm
These signals mean the bus has fully stopped and children are boarding or exiting.
Do NOT pass the bus from either direction.
Violating this law can result in:
- Fines from $400 to $2,000
- 6 Demerit Points
- Major Ticket status with insurance = higher premiums
Let’s keep our roads safe for every child. Drive smart. Stop for school buses.
